  1. Off the top of my head, this is the central theme of two different Futurama episodes (one which was using it as an allegory for downloading songs from Napster, of all things, and another which was using robosexual marriage as an allegory for homosexual marriage).

I'm relatively low information when it comes to scientific studies about the societal impact of prostitution, etc, so the recent decision by Amnesty International to call for decriminalizing prostitution is informative to me. I don't have the expertise to grok the scientific information out there, but I trust Amnesty International's judgement in this case.

The same sorts of factors come into play here, I think. So, I'd have to agree that we shouldn't ban sex robots.

  2. The sex robot is not something I can endorse.  Love is the union of souls and is expressed most eloquently through the art of love, which some crude people have come to call "sex".  That's too bad.  Sex is a scientific and biological function designed for reproduction.  Love, on the other hand, is about the communion of souls.  The two are linked, but not the same. One can have sex without love, just as one can have love without sex.  Many people in this world do not understand this distinction.  And it's a great shame. Our world descends rapidly into hell because of it.  And few see the connection between the two.   Alas... romance seems to be a dying art  as the Masters of the Universe create SexBots ... but I will tell you this (though I know few will believe it) ... Romance is not dead, nor is love, nor is the art of love.  It is merely that the many have chosen to ignore it.  Too bad for them.

  3. Whether you agree or disagree is irrelevant.  It will happen, and nobody is going to be able to stop it.

  4. Vb Wyrde If you agree that love and sex are not the same, and you agree that you can have either without the other (and you state you agree with both sentiments), then how can you not endorse sex robots? They are no different than any other sex toy. What someone does on their own time to feel good (barring illegal activities), is their own business. Who cares? Some people buy sex toys, some people don't.

Love and romance have nothing to do with anything.

  5. Well I disagree that love and romance have nothing to do with anything, but as for your other point .. who cares what people do with their own time, that's a good point.  However, my point is that while love and sex do not have to be linked, they can be... and when they are then you have something that people used to call "making love" which is an art form intimately related to romance.  SexBots can not make love.  They can only have sex.  And that's the lament.  As the SexBots become more prevalent we will be once again further detached from our spiritual roots, and love will take an even lower place in the human experience than it does already (as if it is not low enough now).   Therefore I think it is perfectly consistent to express disapproval of this process.   Yes, people will use them.  I'm not saying they won't.  But then again, people do a lot of things that I disapprove of.  In this case I disapprove because the use of SexBots will further reduce their user's humanity... the chance of connecting to another will be further diminished, and in the end our race will be ushered along further down the road to perdition as a result.

Just a hunch.  Hey, maybe I'm wrong.  Ya know?
